The children and heirs of the late William Cheatham seek a distribution of his slaves and other property as indicated in Cheatham's last will and testament. The said will directed that four slaves "be hired out, and for the money arising from the hire of the said Negroes, to be apply, to the payment his Just Debts, by his Executors, and for the mintainance and Education of his son Major for Six years." Pointing out "that the hair [hire] of the said Negroes, as yr orators and oratrix's are informed and beleives, by this Time amounts to a Sum Sufficient" to meet the will's stipulations, the petitioners charge that the four slaves, as well as the decedent's "remaining slaves, that he had, not before Given, or bequeath away, should be Equally, Divided amongst his children."
