Rachel Maria Dunn seeks to be separated in property from her husband, Albert W. Poole. Rachel represents that she owns a large number of slaves, a one-thousand-acre plantation and another tract of land in the parish of East Feliciana, as well as furniture, silver, and common ware. She also used to own stock worth more than $5,700 in the Louisiana Bank, the Louisiana State Bank, and the City Bank. She claims that her husband has sold the stock and applied the monies for his own use. Prior to selling the stock, he had also collected the dividends and equally applied the money for his own use. Rachel now charges that her husband’s pecuniary affairs are much “embarrassed” and his personal property is not sufficient to meet her claims. She therefore prays to be separated in property from her husband and to be allowed to renounce the community of “acquets & Gains.” She also prays to be authorized to administer her property “solely & separately.” Furthermore, she seeks to recover the value of her stock and dividends received and to be granted a mortgage on her husband’s personal property to secure her claims.
