Abstract

Mills Barnes sells to Henry A. Magee five enslaved people, plus livestock, farm equipment, furniture, pork, corn, etc., for $1180.50. He also sells “…what interest [Mills Barnes] has in the estate of Willis Vassin dec’d who was the father of my present wife Sally Barnes…” The enslaved are: “…one certain negro man of the name of Peter also another by the name of James also another by the name of Chery, also another by the name of Lucy, and also one other by the name of Sopha, together with their future increase…”.
