Abstract

Bill of Sale. Sally Humphers sells to David B. Ayres “three Negro Girls named Suck & Peg & Jane” all the above named Negroes is sound, healthy and clear of diseases and slaves for life…”. No further information about Suck, Peg and Jane or their relationships. Selling price was $750 for the three. There is a twist: Sally Humphers was deceased, and her Administrator, Ambrose Parkes had written out the original Bill of Sale. Parkes apparently was also decease by the time the document got to Court, and witness Isaac W. Fopffe(?) testified that the handwriting was Parkes’. The document was signed November 16, 1818. The date it was presented in Court is not recorded, but the previous document is from August 1822.
