Bill of Sale. Bidient Beard sell to John Mast Esquire “…a certain Negro Woman named Jane and her son William…and their increase” for $450. There is a phrase in the document about Jane and William’s “services to Cutlif Harmon during his lifetime”, so researchers looking for the enslaved might try that location as well as with John Mast. No further information about Jane and William’s relationships, and I assume William is a child. Document was signed October 23, 1825 and presented in Court November 1825. See also NC.ASH.E.290.1 for John Mast purchasing another enslaved person. Both names John Mast, and Cutlif Harmon are mentioned in docs NC.ASH.F. 451.1; Jane may be the daughter of Jude mentioned in doc NC.ASH.F 450.1 was mentioned along with Bidient Beard and Cutlif Harmon.
